Where do our worship songs come from?

Our worship team enjoy the challenge of seeking out worship songs that capture not only what God is saying to the Open Door Church, but that also reinforce key themes from God's Word. It is important to us that the songs we use speak TRUTH but also have life breathed into them by the Holy Spirit.
We use songs from across the world, though mostly from America, Europe and Australia (we haven't mastered African or Asian rhythms yet!!). Songs from Hillsongs, Vineyard and Soul Survivor figure prominently so we need to acknowledge the song-writing talents Darlene Zschech, Brenton Brown, Reuben Morgan, Tim Hughes, Matt Redman, Delirious? and Ben Cantelon.
Some of the songs are C 2008 and bang up-to-date, but others use the classic hymns (Chris Tomlin's Amazing Grace is a great example) as their basis or are words of scripture put to music. Large festivals attended by church members such as GRAPEVINE help us as a church learn new songs and the experience of joining thousands of others singing at lung-bursting volume help us to get a vision of 'heavenly praise'.
Several of our own musicians write songs that we use and they value our encouragement. One terrific aspect of home-grown song-writing is the way that it often captures prophetic insight into the life of the Church. With Claude, Ruth, Jon and Simon getting inspiration in abundance, we are excited about this developing aspect of our ministry.
